North Adams Massachusetts
Woolen goods were and had long been one of the prime industries in North Adams. Dr. Thomas C. Brayton was one of the leading mill men in Western Massachusetts and had set up the North Adams Woolen Co. in Braytonville in 1864, and was very successful. Ten years later, in 1874 the North Adams Manufacturing Co. was organized. It manufactured textile goods. The mill made mostly cashmeres, cheviots and worsteds.
