Who can join?
This is a coed team for all IU students to join. We welcome everybody regardless of skills to try it out. Cheerleaders, martial arts athletes, etc. are welcome to join, BUT only gymnastics skills will be allowed to be practiced during workouts.
How do I join?
Come see us at RecFest (this takes place during Welcome Week in August). We will then send out an email and record on our "calendar" page when and where the call out meeting will take place (It will probably occur in September). After that, practices will begin and you can consider yourself a member of the team! Please also know that new members are always welcome to join at any point in the year.
*NOTE: If you are not on our email list, but would like to be, please send us an email at gymnast(at)indiana.edu and you will be added to our list!
When do practices start? When do meets start?
Practices will begin in early September (exact dates to follow) and continue until the end of the school year. They are held Monday-Thursday from 8-10pm. Meet season is mainly from January-April.
Where do we practice?
We practice at Rising Star Gymnastics. It has two spring floors, two tumble tracks, a foam pit, and all other necessary equipment for both men's and women's gymnastics.
You are not required to attend all practices or meets, but we highly encourage it! However if you wish to attend Nationals you must compete in at least two meets during the regular season.
How much does it cost?
Practices are $10 per practice or you can pay the semester fee which is $130 for the fall semester and $150 for the spring semester. Money may also be needed if you want to purchase gymnastics apparel like the *t-shirt, shorts, *dance pants, *competition uniform (leotard for women and shorts and/or pants for men), sweatshirt, and sweatpants (items marked with * are required for those who want to compete). The price for competition required clothing is usually about $150 for women and $75-100 for men and some used clothing items may be available for purchase upon request. Meets typically cost about $20 while Nationals ranges from about $100-200 depending on the meet fee and location of the event.
What level of gymnasts are typically on the team?
The average level of gymnasts is probably level 7-level 8. However, there are plenty of gymnasts who start gymnastics in college so all levels are present at meets!
What organizations are you affiliated with?
National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs (NAIGC) and Indiana University Club Sports Federation, a division of IU Recreational Sports.
