About Our Church

Christ Congregational United Church of Christ was established in 1857 as the first church in Clintonville, meeting in a log cabin. In 1895, our historic building was erected. This church housed the first public library in Clintonville and the city's first day care center. Our members have a long history of supporting community involvement in education, music and mission activity, including CROP Walks, the local Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, and other ecumenical ministries. Every member has a voice and vote in important church decisions, with the Church Cabinet supervising the administration of the church's programs. Christ Church members have worked to create a family of faith that is friendly and open, responsive to community needs and changes, and faithful to the task of interpreting and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

About The United Church of Christ (UCC)

For more information about the United Church of Christ visit www.ucc.org.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the head of the Church, and our purpose is to live by his example. Our faith is informed by the inspired word of God in the bible; but we are also guided by the traditions of the Church throughout history, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and by experience and reason. In each generation, we are called to reflect on the traditions of the past and interpret their meaning for the present day.
The United Church of Christ traces its heritage to the First Century Church, later expressed in the Protestant Reformation in Europe. The Evangelical and Reformed branches from Germany, and the Congregation and Christian branches from England and the United States merged in 1957 to form the United Church of Christ.
We celebrate two sacraments: Baptism and Communion. We welcome all followers of Jesus Christ to the Communion table. As an expression of our faith, we encourage one another to pursue acts of healing, justice, and caring for all God's people and creations. All who seek a deeper faith and commitment to God and Jesus Christ are welcome into the fellowship and service of Christ Congregational Church.

What We Believe

  • That they may all be one (John 17:21)
"This motto of the United Church of Christ reflects the spirit of unity on which the church is based and points toward future efforts to heal the divisions in the body of Christ. We are a uniting church as well as a united church." -United Church Press
  • In essentials unity, in nonessentials diversity, in all things charity.
  • Testimonies of faith rather than tests of faith.
  • There is yet more light and truth to break forth from God's Holy Word.
  • The priesthood of all believers.
  • Responsible freedom.
