Call on ABC and SBS to break the silence on the climate emergency

posted Jan 16, 2017, 9:17 PM by Climate Action Hobart

Politicians tell us they can't take climate emergency action to protect us all from climate impacts until the public demands it.
Yet large sections of the public are lulled into thinking it can't be all that bad since neither politicians nor the media are reporting on climate impacts or discussing solutions.
Our public broadcasters, ABC and SBS, might be the only bodies that is sufficiently trusted and powerful to break this impasse by reporting honestly and regularly about climate impacts

Workshop: Finding a new way forward on climate change

posted Oct 17, 2016, 7:33 PM by Climate Action Hobart

Climate Action Hobart convened a workshop to look at the current political landscape and where we can most usefully put our climate action energies. It's clear that there will be little joy from the new national government - where can we find the field of effective action?

The free workshop was on Sept 4, 12.45 - 5 pm in Sustainable Living Tasmania, level 1, 71 Murray St, Hobart.

Claire O'Halloran from Climate Action Network Australia gave us the national picture and local climate activists (numbering 36) workshopped the way forward.

Vote for a Safe Climate 2016

posted Jul 7, 2016, 8:41 PM by Climate Action Hobart

Australia went to the polls 2nd July. Our next federal government will almost certainly be the very last one to have any chance of helping to prevent a serious climate catastrophe that will last for many generations.  The whole world, including Australia, needs to act urgently. Mother nature is already showing us that time is running out.

It’s important to know where the major parties stand on the key issues of tackling Climate Change and protecting the environment.
