01/12/11 Melissa's word made me think back to her laundry picture last week. I love that she's so independent and capable. We were both blessed to be raised by wonderful women. It was never drummed into my brain that a woman's place is in the kitchen.... Which is good because I was too busy climbing trees and rolling down hills. I'm not a typical girly girl but I would never switch sexes. I don't watch any of the house wives shows but I do hope to get married some day. Even as a kid, my room was never a disaster although my nickname was Disaster kid. I love to get things organized. Throwing away things makes me feel good. I try to limit the clutter in my life. I even like to help others around their homes. I prefer hanging clothes on the line to a dryer. I find pleasure in folding clothes. My cooking skills aren't very impressive. I will gladly do a sink full of dishes vs a dish washer. I don't gross out easily. Scrubbing toilets isn't torture. For the past decade, I have been the official take the garbage, recycling, green bin out. Brooms are better than vacuums in my eyes. I've lugged wood to start many furnace fires and woken up during the night to keep it going. I clean Esme's litter box every day because she deserves it. On morning's like this, you can find me shoveling the drive way while most of the world is fast asleep. I think of my Grand-mere every time I scrub a floor on my hands and knees. I am klutzy. I make a mess a day. My physical strength is nothing to brag about. I am stubborn enough to see most things through. Power tools and I aren't the best of friends. I think dusting is the most boring thing in the world. Someone once told me that once you have a house, there will always be work to do. I take pride and pleasure in doing it. For all the strong, independent, wise people in my life; After a while-After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and changing a soul. And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning and company doesn't mean security.... And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts and presents aren't promises. And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open, with the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child. And you learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans. After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much. So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. And you learn that you really can endure. That you really are strong. And you really do have worth.-Veronica Shoffstall
Oktoberfest Lager - Ellicottville Brewing Company
Oktoberfest Lager - Ellicottville Brewing Company
October 12, 2011 - Oktoberfest Lager from the Ellicottville Brewing Company in Ellicottville, NY, but contract brewed by the Southern Tier Brewing Company in Lakewood, NY. It came in a "12 oz" (355 mL) unique glass bottle with a pry-off cap. The offering poured out an orangy-amber with very little carbonation or head. The aroma was that of hops (this is a lager remember). It was very clean, crisp and smooth with a very even finish. Quite hoppy for a lager. It went down well, but not really outstanding.
