Rideau 2012

We had a great day when we drove to Ottawa on Saturday, September 23rd for the Head of the Rideau.  Coach Boris and I both raced in the Masters 1x category, and the team raced a Varsity Women's 4+ and 8+ and a Varsity Men's 4+ and 8+.  Coach Boris also raced a Masters 2x with Professor Eric Bollt.  At the end of the day, Coach Brandon and Coach Mac jumped into the Mixed Double.  It was a little windy, and the course was challenging as the conditions changed around each corner.  It was sunny and relatively warm, so we had a good day overall.

Coach Boris did well, finishing 4th of 10 in the Masters Men's Single (aged 27-49), in a time of 23:13, within 11% of the winning time.

Coach Mac did well, finishing first of 4 in the Masters Women's Single (aged 27-49), in a time of 24:02, to claim a gold medal for Clarkson.  Coach Boris is working hard to improve his time to be at least a minute faster than Coach Mac.

The Mixed 2x of Coach Brandon and Coach Mac finished 3rd of 7 in a time of 22:01, within 5% of the winning time.

This was an early-season regatta for us, after we had been on the water for less than four weeks.  We faced many Canadian crews, who were on a different academic schedule than us.  It was great to see strong crews and to get a feel for what we'll be facing throughout the rest of the season.  Attending the race allowed us to test our current fitness and see where we needed to focus on improvement.
