Fish 2012

I'd like to start by recapping our performance at the Head of the Fish Regatta on Oct 27th, 2012 in Saratoga Springs, NY.  Starting off the day was Coach Boris competing in the Men's Masters 1x.  He came in 5th of 10 in a time of 14:02.59, within 3% of the winning time.  Next was Coach Brandon competing in the Men's Collegiate 1x.  He came in 12th in a time of 15:19.31, within 10% of the winning time.  Brandon's time would have won him the Men's Open Novice 1x event later in the day.  Next was Jelena Hadina '16 competing in the Women's Collegiate 1x.  She came in 16th in a time of 18:17.83, within 17% of the winning time.

Our Women's Collegiate 2x of stroke-seat Nicole Verone '15 and bow-seat Kaitlyn Owens '15 competed in their first sculling event ever, completing the course in 17:18.76 for 13th.   They faced a tough field of multiple UMass, Ithaca, and Tufts boats.

Our Women's Open 2- of stroke-seat Pia Yarnell '13 and bow-seat Kat Caley '13 competed in their first pairs race of the year, completing the course in 17:10.92 for 6th.  They also faced a tough field of boats from UMass, Saratoga, and Southeast CT Rowing Club.

Coach Mac got in the action by joining her alumni from Worcester Polytechnic Institute to compete in the Women's Open 4+ event, earning a bronze medal in a time of 14:36.36.

Our Clarkson alumni also joined the fun, competing in the Men's Open 4+ with coxswain Brittany DeSiato '15, placing 5th of 8 boats in a time of 13:33.37.

Our Men's Collegiate Novice 8+ of coxswain Katie Doyle '16, stroke-seat Zach Breen '16, Jake Hauptli '16, Ben Dewey '16, Jameson Luskay '16, Karl Schmidt '16, Nick Misiaszek '16, Taylor Friant '15, and bow-seat Sam Jortberg '16 came in 20th of 30 in a time of 13:43.17.

Our Men's Collegiate 4+ of coxswain Greg Mahnken '15, stroke-seat Aaron Dahl '15, Dan Colby '15, Dan Decker '14, and bow-seat Ted Taylor '15 came in 19th of 30 boats, four places ahead of our cross-town rivals from St. Lawrence University.  Our starboard-stroked, bucket-rigged 4+ finished in a time of 13:10.07, within 10% of the winning time.

Our Men's Open 2x of stroke-seat Aaron Dahl '15 and bow-seat Dan Colby '15 competed in their first sculling event ever.  Because Professors Jukic and Bollt were competing in the Men's Masters 2x at the same time, Aaron and Dan borrowed a different heavyweight 2x from our neighbors at Cascadilla Boat Club.  Unfortunately, Dan's foot stretchers slid off the worn tracks during some power strokes in the race, and he was unable to row to the end.  Aaron then rowed this coxed-single across the finish line, still finishing within a respectable time of 18:24.27.

Coach Mac jumped into another borrowed 2x from the Quinsigamond Rowing Association to race with her former training partner to compete in the Women's Open 2x, coming in first with a time of 13:56.59 and winning a fish head plaque.

Our Women's Open Lightweight 2x of stroke-seat Jelena Hadina '16 and bow-seat Alyssa Schabel '15 competed in their first sculling event ever, coming in 7th with a time of 17:19.99.

Our Women's Collegiate 4+ of coxswain Brittany DeSiato '15, stroke-seat Pia Yarnell '13, Kat Caley '13, Alyssa Schabel '15, and bow-seat Kaitlyn Owens '15 came in 17th of 21 with a time of 15:52.80, within 14% of the winning time.

Our Men's Collegiate Novice 4+ of coxswain Katie Doyle '16, stroke-seat Zach Breen '16, Karl Schmidt '16, Ben Dewey '16, and bow-seat Jake Hauptli '16 came in 8th of 13 in a time of 15:49.74.

We culminated the races with the team's best performance of the day in the Mixed 8+.  Coxswain Greg Mahnken '15, stroke-seat Pia Yarnell '13, Kat Caley '13, Dan Colby '15, Aaron Dahl '15, Dan Decker '14, Ted Taylor '15, Nicole Verone '15, and bow-seat Jelena Hadina '15 raced in the newly dedicated "El Cubano" to win bronze medals in a time of 13:28.40, within 3% of the winning time.

Thank you to those parents who came to Saratoga Springs to cheer us on during our 15 races of the day.  It was a great experience with unusually excellent weather.
