New Clarkson University Boathouse on Norwood Lake to Benefit Region
Clarkson University has built a new boathouse on Norwood Lake in Norwood, N.Y., after recently entering into a lease with the Village of Norwood.

Clarkson uses 0.23 acres of the 12.7 acre Norwood Recreation Park for construction of and use of that property as a Crew Club Team boathouse.

"This 25-year lease agreement provides an opportunity to work together that will benefit local businesses, homeowners and students," said Norwood Village Mayor James H. McFaddin. "The agreement will provide rowing competitions that will bring visitors to our area, provide a safe and beautiful environment so that college students may pursue their sport, and also allow the control of invasive plant growth that threatens property values. I thank Governor Andrew Cuomo, Assemblywoman Addie Russell and Senator Joe Griffo for their support."

"Clarkson University is pleased to enter into this agreement with our neighbor, the Village of Norwood. This is a mutually beneficial collaboration, which will advance quality of life and grow North Country economic opportunities," said Clarkson President Tony Collins. "For 15 years our Crew Club Team has enjoyed rowing on Norwood Lake. This new boathouse solidifies our relationship with Norwood and will enable the team to share this beautiful venue with teams and fans from other universities."

The new boathouse has house 12 to 18 Clarkson boats, depending on size. The local rowing club "The Grateful Oars" also has house 8 to 10 boats there.

In July, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation to allow Clarkson to construct the boathouse. The bill, sponsored by New York State Senator Joseph A. Griffo and Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell, passed both houses of the legislature without any dissenting votes. Earlier this year, the Village of Norwood Board unanimously passed a home rule message in support of the legislation.

Clarkson University launches leaders into the global economy. One in five alumni already leads as a CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Located just outside the Adirondack Park in Potsdam, N.Y., C
