Early Settler Program

Did your family or any of your ancestors live in Clare County prior to Jan. 1, 1900? If so, you may qualify for our "Early Settler" Program. It's a new joint program of the Clare County Historical Society, Farwell Historical Society and Harrison Area Genealogical Society to recognize those who helped to settle our county.

Why are we doing this? Because history is not just events and dates. History is people—people who toiled, sweated, and sometimes died to build their future and this community. They are part of our history, but even more they are part of YOUR history and need to be recognized.

We invite you to download the application, provide the necessary documentation and send the forms to us with a check for $20 to defray the costs associated with the verification and final certificate. We are also happy to help you any step along the way.

By the way, if you recognize this family, please let us know! The photo is one of many in the collection of Forrest Meek, a local historian.
