Towns, Sidings, Railroads and More

Here are a few maps and other items of early Clare County history.

  • Towns of Clare County: This attached file compiled by Andrew Coulson provides names and locations of towns, cities and sidings in Clare County. Most no longer exist and many of them were simply a  stop on the railroad line or perhaps a lumber camp with a post office. Traces of some remain and others...well, they are lost to time.
  • Railroad Map: 1886 map of major railroad lines in Clare County and names of some of the stops (some of which no longer exist).
  • Clare Railroads: This map compiled, by Mr. & Mrs. Vanderbrink, shows many of the logging railroads in the county they located. Many more exist. Will you be the one to find them?
  • Harrison Centennial Book: In 1991, Harrison celebrated its 100th anniversary and published this book giving its history. (4 mg file)
  • Historic Harrison House Tour: A look at buildings in old buildings and homes in Harrison.
  • 1916 Clare County Plat Book: Learn who owned land in each township in 1916.  Plus, a look at schools, roads and railroads.
  • 1916 booklet on Clare County Agriculture: This booklet was printed in 1916 to showcase Clare County farmland. It's also a great portrait of our county 100 years ago.
