We are open!
Hours are 1 - 4 p.m. Saturdays thru Sept. We invite you to come out for visit--and bring the family. If nothing else, come out on a Saturday and pull up a chair on our porch and talk history--or bring in some old photos, items or a question. We're always glad to talk shop. Oh, and you are welcome to join us also. Cost is only $10/year (unless you are 80 or older, in which case your membership is FREE!)
Our museum complex consists of a county museum, the historic Dover one-room schoolhouse, the Ott family log cabin (once home to a family of 18) and our new blacksmith shop. Note: Blacksmith shop may not be open every Saturday. (It all depends on our resident blacksmith.)
Michigan is the only state which has an annual statewide log cabin festival. This year’s fest falls on Sunday, June 28 and the Clare County Historical Society is celebrating by opening its Ott Family log cabin from noon to 4 p.m.
See what life would have been like when the Ott family raised 18 children before indoor plumbing, furnaces, electric light or (gasp) TV and video games.
The cabin is on our grounds at the corner of Dover and Eberhart Roads. Admission is free.
Founded in 1970, to save Clare County's first school building, our Society's mission is to preserve, advance, and disseminate knowledge of the history of Clare County and surrounding area.
Our museum complex consists of the Clare County Historical Museum the historic Dover one-room school and the restored Ott log cabin.
