Swim Lessons


In order to serve you the best way we can and to ensure your child’s comfort and safety, please take a few moments to read the following class description before signing your child up for the appropriate class. 

Group Swim Lessons
Swim lessons are for children who are at least 3 years old.  They are held Monday – Thursday beginning on Monday, June 5th.
 
SWIM LESSON LEVEL GUIDE
Preschool 1/ Guppies: A class designed for 3-4 year olds with no previous organized lessons to work on being comfortable in the water. 
Lessons are held in the baby pool. Skills that will be practiced are getting Hair Wet, doing 5 Bobs, Blowing Bubbles, performing a supported Flutter Kick on front and back, supported Front and Back Floats and retrieving a Floating object.

Preschool 2/ Seahorses:  A class for the younger swimmer, but may have had previous lessons; they are not afraid of the water and are still not big enough or comfortable in the big pool
Skills that will be practiced are getting in and out of the water unassisted, 8 Bobs,Blow Bubbles with nose and/or mouth, perform supported Flutter Kicks on front and back with and without a kickboard, perform supported Front and Back Floats, perform Front Arm Crawl action on wall, understand and perform Elementary Backstroke ("chicken, Bird, Soldier") standing up, Holds Breath and Opens Eyes Underwater and becomes comfortable in the "Big Pool" with the instructor.
 
Level 1/ Goldfish: Introduction to Water Skills
Purpose: Help students feel comfortable in the water
Students will be taught to perform supported Flutter Kicks while blowing bubbles, perform supported Front and Back Floats, perform supported Front and Back Glides, perform supported Front Crawl arm action while side breathing and blowing bubbles, perform Elementary Backstroke, hold Breath Underwater, Retrieve Submerged Object from the Tot Dock, gain knowledge of using a Life Jacket, perform supported Breast Stroke kick and arm action and Jumping into the pool from the side or diving board.
 
Level 2/ Lobsters: Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Purpose: Give students success with fundamental skills.
Students will be taught to perform 15-20 Bobs, perform unsupported Front and Back Glides, perform unsupported Front and Back Floats, Holds Breath for 3+ seconds, perform supported Front Crawl (Side breathing, straight legs), perform supported Breaststroke, perform Elementary Backstroke with little or no assistance, perform supported Back Crawl, perform Flutter Kicks on front and back with kick board, Jumps into pool from Diving Board(assisted) and practice Treading Water.
 
Level 3/ Jellyfish: Stroke Development
Purpose: Build on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice
Students will be taught to Hold Breath for 5+ seconds while blowing bubbles out nose, performs unsupported Front and Back Glides for 5+ yards, Retrieves Submerged Object from 3+ feet of water, performs unsupported Breaststroke, performs unsupported Back Crawl, can Turn Over from front to back / back to front, performs unsupported Front Crawl with side breathing and practice Kneeling Dive from diving board or the side of pool.
 
Level 4/ Angelfish: Stroke Improvement
Purpose: Develop confidence in the strokes learned and improve other aquatic skills.
Students will be taught to perform 10-20 Deep Water Bobs, Tread Water for 20-40 seconds, perform Front Crawl for 25 yards, perform Back Crawl for 25 yards, perform Breaststroke for 25 yards, practice Butterfly Kick with a kick board, perform elementary Backstroke for 25 yards, perform Kneeling Dive from the diving board and practice a Standing Dive and practice Flip Turns.
 
Level 5/6/ Dolphins: Stroke Refinement/Swimming and Skill Proficiency
Purpose: Provide further coordination and refinement of strokes. Refines the strokes so students swim with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances.
Front Crawl for 50-100 yards with Flip Turn, Back Crawl 50-100 yards with Flip Turn, Breaststroke 50-100 yards with Flip Turn, Butterfly 50-100 yards with Flip Turn, Tread Water 50-90 seconds, perform Kneeling Dive from diving board and perform a Standing Dive from diving board.

In order to ensure a space in a lesson, all reservations need to be made by 4:00 pm on the Friday prior to the beginning of each session.  Any requests made after 4:00 pm may be placed on the next available session if there is no space or teacher available.

Cost to sign up:  Residents - $38.00 per session.     Non-Residents - $48.00 per session.

Private & Semi-Private Swim Lessons
Our instructors offer private lessons. Cost: $20.00 per half (1/2) hour.
Semi-private lessons (2 - 4 children of same ability level). Cost: $15.00 per child (1/2 hour lesson)

Payment can be made over the phone with a credit card.  We accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover.  You may mail a check or pay at the front desk before the first lesson begins.
 
We offer eight (8) 30-minute Sessions, Monday – Thursday 
 *  No class on Tuesday, July 4th in Session 3.  Make up is Friday, July 7th.
