History of Civilization


In 1980, the board game "Civilization" was created.  Whether it was simply a coincidence or an inspiration that lead to the computer game is unknown to me. 

In 1991, Sid Meier created Civilization as a computer game.  It was a great success and lead to the creation of Civilization II in 1996 (along with two expansion packs, in 1996 and 1997).  After Civ II's release, however, things got complicated.  Sid Meier left Microprose.  It then became unclear who owned the copyright to Civilization.  This lead to several alternative versions to Sid's games:
