2020 Band Camp Cancelled

Open Letter from Mrs Vermeer

Good Afternoon,

Firstly, thank you so much for being patient regarding updates. As always, I'm giving you information as I receive it. 

The district has cancelled all Marching Band Camps for summer of 2020. 

We will plan on starting all marching band training in the Fall for parades and football games (If they are running). It will be more of a pep-band feel for football games with minimal half time drill requirements. Again, all training for marching band will be in the Fall once school starts.

I know this might come as a shock and disappointment because marching band is a big part of the band experience. I will do my best to incorporate elements of band camp into the regular school year. Thank you all so much for your support of our program and students. I will continue to update as I know more. 

I hope you are all healthy and safe at home. Take care and hopefully I'll see you soon.

Band Events - February 27-28, 2020

All parents are welcome to watch MSBOA performances and can follow the band to the sight reading room after their stage performance. Only chaperones are allowed to be in the warm-up room with the band.

Thursday, February 27, 2020 MSBOA Festival at Jenison Center for the Arts - 8375 20th Ave, Jenison, MI 49428
Dress Code- Black socks, black shoes, black pants, black short sleeve t-shirt to be worn under the provided GRPS polo shirt

2nd Hour Band 
11:25 am - Gather in band room
11:50 am - Bus departs City
12:50 pm - Warm-up
1:15 pm - Performance 
2:55 pm - Arrive at City

Zero Hour Band 
1:45 pm - Gather in band room
2:10 pm - Bus departs City
3:10 pm - Warm-up
3:35 pm - Performance
5:15 pm - Arrive at City

Friday, February 28, 2020 - MSBOA Festival at Jenison Center for the Arts - 8375 20th Ave, Jenison, MI 49428

1:00 pm - Bus departs City

3:05 pm - Bus departs City
4:05 pm - Warm-up
4:30 pm - Performance
6:10 pm - Arrive at City

Wednesday, February 19, 2020 - Band Fundraiser at City Barbecue (3050 28th St SE, 10:30 am - 9:00 pm)
Come out and show your support for our band while enjoying some ‘que, and we will get 25% of the sales back! Please show the attached flyer (electronic or hard copy) to cashier when making a purchase and share this event with family and friends! Thank you!

Thursday, February 20, 2020 - Festival Concert at City Auditorium
Middle School concert starts at 6:30 pm (7th and 8th grade students report to band room at 6:00 pm)
High School concert starts at 7:00 pm (high school students report to band room at 6:30 pm)

Friday, February 21, 2020 - Basketball Pep Band at Ottawa Hills High School (FOR SIGNED UP STUDENTS ONLY)
Students riding bus, meet at City at 5:00 pm
Game starts at 6:00 pm & 7:30 pm

Required Performances for Band Students
  • Pre-Festival Clinic - At City High School- DURING SCHOOL- Dress Code: Concert Black
    • February 10th (Monday)
      • 8th Grade Band- 9:00 AM
      • 3rd Hour Band- 11:00 AM
    • February 11th (Tuesday)
      • 2nd Hour Band- 9:00 AM
      • Zero Hour- 10:00 AM
  • Festival Concert
    • February 20th (Thursday)
    • MS: Students Arrive 6:00 PM Start Time: 6:30 PM
    • HS: Students Arrive 6:30 PM Start Time: 7:00 PM (Zero hour is NOT playing for MS concert)
    • Dress Code-Concert Black
  • MSBOA Festival
    • Location: Jenison Performing Arts Center- 8375 20th Ave, Jenison, MI 49428
    • Dress Code- Black socks, shoes, pants, T-shirt, GRPS Polos will be provided

  • At Briggs Field- we will be able to get into the band room
  • The reason we picked so many dates, is with the understanding that your students might not be able to make all of them. This way they have an opportunity to participate in more of them.

Winter/Holiday Concerts this Thursday, December 5, 2019

Middle School Concert starts at 6:30 pm in the Auditorium. Middle School band students need to report to band room at 6:00 pm. 

High School Concert starts at 7:00 pm in the Auditorium with the Santa Parade Award Presentation. High school  band students need to report to band room at 6:30 pm.

Attire: Concert Uniform as described in Band Handbook:  A black dress shirt; black pants (slacks) or black skirt, NO JEANS (Even if black); black socks or tights; and solid black dress shoes. Christmas accents/accessories optional. 

As always, the concert is free but donations are always welcome!

NEW - Basketball Pep Band

The following itinerary is for students that SIGNED up for basketball games. These are not required.

*Students may ride the bus traveling from City High School to the basketball game or just meet us at the high school (OHHS or UHS) the game is at. Students not riding the bus needs to be communicated with me before the even so I have proper attendance.*

Schedule
Friday, January 24th, 2020- Union High School
Friday, February 21st, 2020- Ottawa Hills High School
Friday, February 28th, 2020- Union High School

Time Frame (All 3 dates the same)
5:00 PM- Bus Departs from City to event
5:55 PM- Playing of the National Anthem
6:00 PM- Varsity Girls Game Starts
7:25 PM- Playing of the National Anthem
7:30 PM- Varsity Boys Game Starts
8:30 PM- Bus departs back to City (Students pay be picked up from HS by parents- Parents must check out their student with me)

Food- Food will be provided by the band boosters for students in the Pep-Band.
