Spring Concert this Thursday, May 16

Middle School Band concert starts at 6:30 pm
MS students report to band room at 6:00 pm

High School Jazz Band concert starts at 7:00 pm  
High School Band concert starts at 7:30 pm
All HS students report to band room at 6:30 pm

Doors will be closed between music performances.

Concert attire per band handbook:
• A black dress shirt
• Black pants (Slacks) or black skirt, NO JEANS (Even if Black)
• Black socks or tights
• Solid black dress shoes
• No jewelry, accessories, or clothing that will detract from the performance or a uniform appearance or that violates school dress code.

Concert is free but donations are always welcome!

Band Camp Forms Due This Friday - May 10

Just a reminder that band camp forms must be turned in to Mrs. Vermeer this Friday, May 10, 2019.  She has given students reminders of this due date.  If not turned in by this Friday then it may impact their grade. This is for FORMS only. Payment can be made at a later date. She needs to have solid numbers for Band Camp going into the summer. This is critical for drill writing!

For those who wish to pay online, use the following link and click on "Band Camp Online Payment:"
We know paying online is convenient for many parents and we're pleased to offer this option. However, we do still PREFER check or cash as online payments are charged over 2%. We'd rather all money go directly to the band program. Cash or check payments can be sent in with your child to Mrs. Vermeer or made on the first day of band camp. Please make checks out to City PTSA and write BAND CAMP on memo line

Finally, please note all marching band students will need to purchase a pair of gloves this year. We are ordering all new gloves (in a new color). If they purchase a pair this year, they can hold on to those for the rest of their marching band years, or purchase a new pair each year.

SAF Mindshare/Gala - Attire

City High School Band is performing this Wednesday, 4/24/2019 at this year’s Student Advancement Foundation Mindshare fundraiser. 

Required attire: Black short sleeve t-shirt, black pants, black crew socks, and black shoes/marching shoes. At school, a black GRPS polo shirt will be loaned to each student so they may wear it over their black t-shirt.

Hastings Jazz Festival - April 25 (NEW date)

City High School Jazz Band will be performing in the Hastings Jazz Festival. They will perform for a great audience and also get a clinic from a master jazz musician/director. Please come out and watch their performance. 


Date: Thursday, April 25th, 2019 - NEW date
Time: 2:00 PM-5:30 PM
Performance Time: 3:30 PM
Location: Walldorff Ballroom, 105 East State, Hastings, MI
Transportation: School Bus

Permission slips have been given to students to take home this past Thursday (or download and print a copy below).  Permission slips need to be returned to Mrs. Vermeer no later than Tuesday, April 23, 2019. 

SAF Mindshare/Gala - April 24

City High School Band has been selected to perform at this year’s Student Advancement Foundation Mindshare fundraiser. It is such an honor to be chosen to represent GRPS at this event.  SAF is a nonprofit organization that has a partnership with GRPS. They provide funds for each school's music and art programs, among other things. 

Date: Wednesday, April 24th, 2019
Time: 1:30PM-7:30PM
Location: JW Marriot (Eating at Museum HS)
Transportation: School Bus
Dinner: Will be provided by SAF  

Permission slips have been given to students to take home this week (or you may download a copy below).  Permission slips need to be returned to Mrs. Vermeer no later than Monday, April 22, 2019. 

Note: This is a required performance for High School Band students. If your student has a conflict please let Mrs. Vermeer know in writing (Note, Email or Remind) by Monday, April 22, 2019.

Marching Band Parent Meeting

For those who missed the Mandatory Marching Band Parent Meeting last night, your students can pick up their band camp packet (information and forms) during their next band class. 

Each packet is pre-labeled with student names (current 8th-11th graders). All completed forms must be returned to Mrs. Vermeer no later than May 10, 2019. Attendance in band camp is required for a grade and a spot on the field for the season's show. Knowing who and how many will be at band camp is critical for drill writing!
