Trinity sponsors a group of young adults in Northwest Indiana who gather for worship, support, and good times. The group is called Dalit.
The term Dalit is an ancient Marathi (Western Indian state language) word that may be defined as “ground” or “broken in pieces”. It refers to people who have been broken, or ground down by those above them in a deliberate and active way. As a result, the word “Dalit” usually refers to the portion of the Indian population falling outside of the Indian caste society; those who are traditionally known as the “outcastes” or “untouchables.
The name Dalit was chosen to symbolize our brokeness before God as well as the outcast feeling that young adults often experience in relationship to traditional "church."
This group reaches out to the young adults and information about it is located on this MySpace site.
