THE CHS HORTICULTURE PROGRAM

The horticulture program is located behind Churchland High School at 4301 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA. The program is one of the many AC-13 classes offered through Portsmouth Public Schools to give students hands-on skills, career opportunities, and a chance to earn state certifications. Students from Churchland, Norcom, and Wilson High School attend this two credit class to learn about greenhouse management and production in the fall and pesticide application in the spring. The students learn to grow crops such as pansies, poinsettias, indoor plants, annuals, perennials and then offer them to the public during plant sales held throughout the school year.
