Scholarship Summaries for 2009-2010

North Coast Browns’ Backers Sal Carrino “Got Your Back” Scholarship

·          One - $1,000 scholarship (possibly more than one scholarship)

·          Must be a graduating senior from a Medina County high school

·          Must have participated in an athletic program while at a Medina County high school

·          Must go on to higher education of some type

·          Must submit a letter of recommendation preferably from a coach in a sport in which you participated

·          Community involvement, citizenship/character, and involvement in athletics will help determine the scholarship recipient(s)

·          Application is available in the guidance office

·          A maximum of five applications will be submitted from Cloverleaf High School

·          Application is due in the guidance office by 8 a.m. on February 24, 2010

 

Stop Hunger Scholarships

·          Up to five - $5,000 scholarships

·          Must be enrolled in an accredited educational institution (kindergarten through college graduate school)

·          Must have positively contributed to the fight against hunger in our community

·          Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States

·          May not be an employee of Sodexo Foundation; however family members who are not employees of Sodexo may apply

·          A community service recommendation is required

·          On-line application must be submitted by February 26, 2010

 

BP Scholarship

·          One - $1,000 scholarship (possibly renewable for one year)

·          Must be a female

·          Must be a high school senior

·          Must demonstrate exceptional promise as a future scientist

·          Must exhibit strong scientific achievement and continued interest in chemistry and mathematics

·          Must have completed (or in the process of completing) a minimum of three years of laboratory science courses (Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics)

·          Must have completed (or in the process of completing) a minimum of three years of mathematics

·          Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.4

·          Must submit a letter of recommendation

·          Must submit an official transcript

·          Application is available in the guidance office

·          Application must be mailed to Dr. Anne O’Connor, Department of Chemistry, Cleveland State University, 2121 Euclid, Cleveland, OH  44115

·          Application must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2010

 

IAAP (International Association of Administrative Professionals) Scholarship

·          One - $500 scholarship

·          Must be a high school student who will be entering their first year of college

·          Must be pursuing a degree related to business administration

·          Must write one essay (typed two page, double-spaced that describes your goals for the future)

·          Must include two letters of recommendation (one academic and one friend/employer)

·          Must include an official high school transcript

·          Application is available at www.iaap-medinacounty.org

·          Application is due by March 1, 2010

 

Cavaliers & Majestic Steel USA Scholarship Program

·          Six - $2,000 scholarships

·          Must be a high school senior

·          Must intend to pursue a career in manufacturing

·          Must enroll in college for the 2010-2011 school year

·          Must plan to attend Cuyahoga Community College, Lakeland Community College, or Lorain Community College

·          Must complete the FAFSA

·          Application is available in the guidance office

·          Application must be postmarked by March 5, 2010

·          Recipients will be announced at the Cavaliers game at Quicken Loans Arena on April 9, 2010

 

SAMMY (Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year) Award Program

·          25 - $7,500 college scholarship

·          Must be a high school senior

·          Must be a scholar athlete

·          Winners and their parents and/or guardians will be invited to attend a SAMMY 2010 awards weekend scheduled for June 2010

Goodyear Picture Yourself as an Engineer Scholarship

·          Two - $500 scholarships

·          Must be a talented female high school senior

·          Must be a United States citizen

·          Must live in Northeastern Ohio

·          Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0

·          Must plan to attend a four-year college/university

·          Must pursue a career in engineering

·          Must submit a letter of recommendation from a math or science teacher

·          Must submit an official high school transcript with SAT/ACT scores

·          Must submit an essay with a prompt of “Picture Yourself as an Engineer”

·          Must attend the Goodyear Engineering Career Day on April 17, 2010

·          Must be a high school senior

·          Must plan to attend a four-year college/university

·          Must intend to pursue a career in television or a television related field

Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship

·          10 - $10,000 scholarships

·          200 - $1,000 scholarships

·          2,100 - $50 Kohl’s gift cards

·          Must be a young person, aged 6 to 18

·          Must be a young volunteer with community service

·          On-line nominations must be submitted by March 15, 2010

 

Medina County Show Biz Company Scholarship

·          Two - $500 scholarships

·          Must demonstrate financial need

·          Must be a high school senior in Medina County

·          Must be pursuing a degree in the performing arts

·          Must be active in Medina County Show Biz Company or your high school performing arts program

·          Application is available in the guidance office

·          Application must be postmarked no later than March 15, 2010

 

Medina Hospital Foundation & Medina Hospital Scholarship Program

·          Up to two - $1,000 scholarships available to high school seniors from each of the following Medina County High Schools: Black River, Brunswick, Buckeye, Cloverleaf, Highland, Medina, and Wadsworth

·          Must plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school

·          Must pursue a degree in nursing or an allied health curriculum

·          Must include an official high school transcript

·          Application is available at www.medinahospital.org under ‘scholarships’

·          Application must be postmarked by March 15, 2010

 

Medina Hospital Medical Staff Health Profession Scholarship

·          $10,000 for scholarships, usually in $1,000 increments

·          Must be a high school senior who resides in Medina County

·          Must have applied and/or been accepted to an accredited college or university pursuing a career in the medical field

·          Must include a letter of recommendation

·          Must include an official high school transcript

·          Must include a wallet-size photo of yourself

·          Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic achievement, school leadership, community service, financial need, and references

·          Application is available at www.medinahospital.org under ‘scholarships’

·          Application must be postmarked by March 15, 2010

 

William & Ruth Kelly Health Career Scholarship

·          One - $1,000 scholarship

·          Must be a high school senior who will graduate from Brunswick, Medina, Buckeye, Black River, Cloverleaf, Highland, or Wadsworth; or an adult who is presently enrolled in an accredited school and program for approved nursing or allied health careers

·          Must pursue a degree in an allied health or nursing field

·          Must include three letters of recommendation

·          Must include an official high school transcript

·          Recipient will be selected on the basis of motivation, initiative, community service, job experience, and references

·          Application is available at www.medinahospital.org under ‘scholarships’

·          Application must be received by 4 p.m. on March 15, 2010 at Medina Hospital, Human Resources Department, 1000 East Washington Street, Medina, OH 44256

 

Women’s Network/Judith Resnik Scholarship

·          One - $1,000 scholarship (renewable for three years)

·          Must be a female

·          Must be a high school senior enrolled in a public or private school in the greater Akron area

·          Must be accepted into an appropriate physical science, math, or engineering program at a four-year accredited school (excluding a medical field)

·          Application is available in the guidance office

·          Application is due by March 18, 2010

 

Harold A. and Louise C. White Scholarship

·          One scholarship for each of the Medina County local high schools

·          Must be a high school senior at a Medina County local high school

·          Must enroll at an Ohio college or university

·          Must major in the field of education

·          One letter of recommendation is required from a teacher

·          One letter of recommendation is required from a principal or counselor

·          Application is available in the guidance office

·          Only one application may be submitted from Cloverleaf High School

·          Application is due in the guidance office no later than 10 a.m. on March 19, 2010

 

Clarence H. Horn Scholarship

·          Must be a high school senior at a Medina County public school

·          Must enroll at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio

·          Must major in the field of accounting, teaching, or a related field (with an emphasis on accounting)

·          One letter of recommendation is required from a teacher

·          One letter of recommendation is required from a principal or counselor

·          Application is available in the guidance office

·          Application is due no later than March 24, 2010, at the Medina County Educational Service Center, 124 West Washington Street, Medina, OH  44256

 

Delmar Graff Scholarship

·          Must be a high school senior or graduate of a Medina County public school

·          Must enroll at an Ohio college or university

·          Must major in the field of music education or art education

·          One letter of recommendation is required from a teacher

·          One letter of recommendation is required from a principal or counselor

·          Application is available in the guidance office

·          Application is due no later than March 24, 2010, at the Medina County Educational Service Center, 124 West Washington Street, Medina, OH  44256

 

Margaret Ford and Lloyd K. Smucker Scholarship

·          One or more scholarships for a total of $1,500

·          Must be a high school senior at a Medina County high school

·          Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0

·          Must meet the core subjects listed below for one of the following:

o   College prep track:

o   3.5 credits of English

o   2.5 credits of Math

o   2.5 credits of Science

o   2.5 credits of Social Studies

o   1.0 credit of Foreign Language

o   1.0 credit of Fine Art

Or

o   Vocational track prep:

o   3.5 credits of English

o   1.5 credits of Math

o   1.5 credits of Science

o   2.5 credits of Social Studies

o   1.0 credit of Fine Art

o   On schedule to earn a Two Year Vocational Certificate

 

·          Must demonstrate an economic need (either by meeting the criteria for the Free or Reduced Lunch Program or by experiencing unique financial difficulties)

·          Must submit a copy of a letter of acceptance from a two- or four-year institution of higher education

·          One letter of recommendation is required from a teacher

·          One letter of recommendation is required from a principal or counselor

·          One letter of recommendation is required from a third adult

·          Application is available in the guidance office

·          Application is due no later than March 24, 2010, at the Medina County Educational Service Center, 124 West Washington Street, Medina, OH  44256

 

Marion Stroud Memorial Scholarship

·          Two - $500 scholarships

·          Must be a high school senior

·          Must be accepted into an accredited training program in a field providing services to individuals with MRDD (Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities) such as nursing, special education, or physical therapy

·          Must demonstrate involvement in or provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities through activities such as Special Olympics, volunteering, job shadowing, WINGS program, etc.

The Touchdown Club Scholarship

·          Four - $1,000 scholarships

·          Must be a graduating senior from Summit, Portage, or some of Medina County (including Cloverleaf)

·          Must have earned at least one varsity letter for participation in an interscholastic sport during your senior year of high school

·          Must plan to enroll in a college or university located in Ohio for the Fall of 2010

·          Must submit two letters of recommendation

·          Must submit an official high school transcript including standardized test scores

·          Must write three short essays

Stephen F. Joseph Memorial 4-H Scholarship

·          One - $1,000 scholarship

·          Must be a Medina County high school senior or a college freshman

·          Must be currently enrolled in the Medina County 4-H program

·          Must have been a Medina County 4-H member for a least five years

·          Must submit three letters of recommendation

·          Recipient will be selected based on 4-H involvement (55%), leadership (15%), community service (15%), and academic achievement (15%)

·          Application is available in the guidance office

·          Application is due by 5 p.m. on March 30, 2010 at the Medina County OSU Extension Office, 120 West Washington Street, Medina, OH  44256

 

Fields of Learning Scholarship

·          Four scholarships are available (two for $1,000; two for $500)

·          Must write an essay (between 700-1,500 words) about what you have learned as a result of high school football

·          On-line application must be submitted by March 31, 2010

 

H. O. P. E. (Helping Others Pursue Excellence) Scholarship

·          Up to two - $1,000 scholarships

·          Must be a current SHC (Society for Handicapped Citizens of Medina County, Inc.) member or an unmarried child or grandchild of a member

·          Membership to SHC is open to any person over the age of 18 who is interested in advocating for individuals with disabilities

·          Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in a disability related field

·          Recipient will be selected based on volunteer experience, related volunteer experience, essay content and quality, and letter of reference

Minority Journalism Scholarship

·          One - $1,500 scholarship

·          Must be a high school senior

·          Must be African American, Hispanic, Asian American, or American Indian

·          Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5

·          Must enroll at an Ohio college/university during the 2010-2011 school year

·          Must plan to pursue a newspaper journalism career

·          Must major in journalism

·          Must demonstrate the ability to write clearly in an autobiography of 750 to 1,000 words describing academic and career interests, awards, extracurricular activities, and any journalism-related activities

·          Must submit two letters of recommendation

U. S. Bank’s Internet Scholarship Program

·          Up to forty (40) - $1,000 scholarships

·          Must be a high school senior or college undergraduate

·          Scholarships are awarded by a random drawing process

OACCS (Ohio Association of Career Colleges and Schools) Legislative Scholarship Program

·          Over 275 scholarships (ranging from $2,000 to $12,995)

·          Must be an Ohio high school graduating senior in the class of 2010

·          Must start college classes in the summer or fall term of 2010

·          Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0

·          Must have a nomination by a current member of the Ohio Legislature

·          Must submit two letters of recommendation

·          Must submit a 250 word statement explaining why you want a career in the field you have listed on your application and why you feel you will be successful in this field

WISE (Women in Sports and Events) Scholarship Program

·          Must be a graduating high school senior

·          Must be a female

·          Must be a resident of Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Medina, Lorain, Summit, or Portage County

·          Must enroll in an institution of higher education

·          Must demonstrate an interest or leadership in the area of events or in the business of sports

·          Must pursue a four-year degree with an intended course of study in sports management, communications, physical education, business, or a related field

·          Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5

·          Must write an essay commenting on your prior events or sports history and your future goals

·          Must submit one letter of recommendation

William D. Squires Educational Foundation, Inc.

·          Twelve - $3,000 financial need based scholarships (renewable for three additional years)

·          Must be a graduating senior from an Ohio high school

·          Must demonstrate financial need

·          Must have an EFC less than $8,000 on the FAFSA

·          Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2

·          Must have a specific career goal, be highly motivated, and have a burning desire to reach their career goal

·          Must submit an essay on the topic “My Career Goal”

·          Must submit two letters of recommendation

·          Must submit an official high school transcript

King’s Daughters & Sons, Inc. Scholarship of Medina County

·          One - $1,000 scholarship

·          Must be a 2010 graduate of any Medina County School
