So sad...
So sad...
(From a week ago) I used to love the beach, but now I hate it. Well, July 5th I went off with my family to Newport, Rhode Island. We walked around town, went to go see the mansions etc. Then, we went to the beach. I decided to walk in the water and I wasn't paying attention to the ground and I tripped over a log. I know, I know...sounds stupid, but it actually happens. My camera fully submerged and is not functioning properly, the only thing that happens when you turn it on is the screen goes blue. I also think my kit lens is also gone too. My neighbor is going to try to sell it for me on ebay though. The good news: Another neighbor is a wedding photographer and he has a lot of gear. Well, I called him up, told him the story, and I asked if he had a camera I could use. Sure enough, he found his Canon Rebel XSi with the kit lens. Both are a little scratched but work fine. He said I could borrow it until I get another camera. The things that happen, now, instead of saving for a new lens I have to save for a new camera body! My SD card isn't working either, all 300-400 pictures are gone. What a fun an memorable trip I had. Not to mention for the past several days we have been having a heat wave, temps in the high 90's...feeling like the 110's. But the rain is supposed to come and cool the temp to the high 80's. I hope all of my Flickr friends are doing well. Sorry I haven't been able to comment on photos in a few days...you may see me on here or not. I won't be able to take pictures as it is supposed to rain but I'll try to get around to commenting. I have a pretty busy weekend, gotta paint my huge room and help put laminate flooring down, time to get rid of the carpet!

Took this shot for fun. All three munsterlanders (aka munsters or monsters) were sitting on the window seat waiting for my husband to come home. I really didn't think much of the shot and was going to delete it but my husband loves it (mostly because it features his 'champion' Sparky. The more I look at it, the more I see. Love how photos can be revealing or show what you didn't see when you took it. Zoe, the older munster, is hiding behind the curtain. She is a sly dog who is brilliant at hiding. She would open the refrigerator and cupboards, finding food to eat and then would hide while the other dogs got caught finishing up the crumbs. Jake is the 'pup', not a year old yet. He is laying down in the middle. He is sweet and just wants to play and be loved. Sparky is the one sitting with the intense gaze. My husband's shadow and pride and joy. He looks like he is in some sort of yoga pose. The white outside is snow in the yard. The window is streaked with dog nose prints, the trim is scratched by the dogs. I guess I live in a 'dog friendly' house where the flooring is ceramic tile, laminate, wood and vinyl. No carpet anywhere except in one bedroom. Too many munsters.

Kicked, Bitten, and Scratched: Life and Lessons at the World's Premier School for Exotic Animal Trainers
A rare and absolutely enchanting look inside the Harvard of wild animal wranglers

As is obvious to anyone who has read her most e-mailed New York Times article of 2006, "What Shamu Taught Me About a Happy Marriage," Amy Sutherland knows a thing or two about animals. In Kicked, Bitten, and Scratched, she takes readers behind the gates of Moorpark Community College, where students are taught such skills as how to train a hyena to pirouette and coax a tiger to open wide for a vet exam. As she follows the faculty, student body, and four- footed teaching aides at Moorpark's Exotic Animal Training and Management program, Sutherland produces a true walk on the wild side, filled with wonder, comedy, occasional heartache, and transcendent beauty.
