FLOOR DESIGN SOFTWARE. HEATING IN FLOOR
The floor outside the Millenium Gallery, Sheffield
'The Kipple Pond' Kipple - a word invented by author Philip K. Dick, meaning junk objects that seem to multiply as if they were self-replicating. Walking across the surface of this pond you may notice something odd. Amongst the plants and animals there is also a mass of manufactured stuff. This work highlights the tension between waste generated by people and the purifying power of nature. Many of the objects twinkling in the depths are playful or unusual. They reflect the clutter that surrounds Schofield's everyday life; you may recognise some of them from your life too? Simon Schofield designed software called Mouse Organ which enables him to turn digital collages into highly detailed patterns which never repeat. These multi-layered, surfaces seem realistic and organic, even when the content is fantastical. The work was conceived alongside Can Art Save Us? displayed in the main gallery 22 October 2009 - 31 January 2010."150 seconds to say, "I'm leaving".
During Tuesday's lightning-based TechTalk, I gave a 150 second presentation called "T minus 7,200 minutes" where I made my leaving MITRE public. I'm starting up a design studio: Involution Studio Boston with Dirk Knemeyer and Andrei Herasimchuk. Dirk moved from San Fran to Boston to help jump start the business.
