The dining room was really plain and unspecial when we moved in. So I spent some time looking at it and thinking about what I wanted to do to make it my dining room. I'm not a decorator. I'm not a Martha Stewart. But I've always, always, always wanted my dining room to look nice. So a vision of my dining room finally materialized in my head. It already had chair rails going around it so I decided that it needed wainscoting (bead board) on the bottom of the wall painted a nice off whitey color and then a nice browny color above the chair rail. Then, since I was going with a leafy motiff type thing, when I saw this wood at Lowe's I asked Mike if he could replace the wood under the window sills with it since he was going to have to remove those pieces anyway to put the bead board up. It turned out so nice. I love it. Sometimes, I just stand in the doorway between the kitchen and the dining room and just look at it all. Because it is so nice. And I did it. My brain cooked it up. This non-decorator's brain that's in my head. I'm impressed.
