Greetings Everyone,
My name is Christian J Zwiegel. I am a graduate of Thomas Edison State College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Natural Sciences and Mathematics (2008) and an Associate's Degree in Meteorology and Oceanography (2006). I have my Master's in Distance Education (Instructional Design) program from the University of Maryland University College (2013).
I have been an online Mentor for two years within the Master's of DE program, and my responsibilities include providing sound guidance, advice, and coaching for others enrolled under my tutelage.
I am a former Leading Chief Petty Officer (Operations Manager) and Assistant Officer in Charge (Executive Assistant) at Fleet Weather Center Detachment Pentagon. I plan on completing 20.7 years of service on January 31st, 2014. Over the past 20 years, I have provided tactical recommendations to executive level management based upon a careful analysis of environmental conditions. As a training officer and executive agent to an inspection agency, I developed and implemented various curriculum based upon the needs of the organization. During the course of my employment, I was responsible for training, assessing, and certifying 51 individual Navy teams prior to deployment. While assigned to the Fleet Anti-Submarine command, I researched and developed the curriculum for an inaugural Anti-Submarine Warfare Oceanography ascension training team, and the curriculum has been implemented to train and evaluate teams prior to deployment using instructor led training, hands-on experiences, followed by an knowledge assessment and evaluation by executive leadership (Commanding Officer).
During my tenure as a student at Thomas Edison State, I became familiar in using the Blackboard system. The courses consisted of using discussion boards, textbooks, and VHS tapes.
I enjoy seeking new and interesting ways of conducting and providing training, while
trying to save the company money by using low-cost to free technology. As a military member myself, I always struggled in balancing my professional skills and completing my education. I find that as smart phone technology improves; I would love to find ways of implementing this type of technology in an educational aspect. As bandwidth and technology improves in remote locations, I hope to bring my acquired skills to bear to benefit any organization and its personnel.
