2013 Christian Engineering Conference

Atlanta, Georgia -- June 26-28

Reflections on the conference

Abstracts from the conference and some  Powerpoint slides

Before the conference...

The Christian Engineering Education Conference has reached a major milestone.  The next conference will be our tenth, spanning back across twenty years.  We are also changing our name to appeal to a wider audience.   While education is still an important topic at the conference, we want to expand the conversation to explore more aspects of relating our Christian faith to our profession of engineering.   Thus, in 2013 we will convene as the “Christian Engineering Conference”, meeting in Atlanta, Georgia on June 26-28.   The venue will be Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Registration information is now available in the document linked below.  (This document will be updated later this spring with more details about schedule, maps, and  transportation options.)  After reading the brochure below, you can start the registration process by following the Registration Link.  Registration must be submitted by May 16 and payment must be received by May 30.

The steering committee includes the following volunteers:

  • Andrew Blauch, Charleston Southern
  • Bill Jordan - Baylor [Past Program Chair]
  • Melani Plett - Seattle Pacific
  • Randy Schwindt - Union
  • Murat Tanyel - Geneva
  • Jeremy VanAntwerp - Calvin [Program Chair]
  • Steve VanderLeest - Calvin [General Chair]
  • Nolan VanGaalen – Dordt

A conference like this requires many more volunteers to ensure success.  Please consider offering your time and energy to this worthy endeavor.  Here are some ways you could serve:

  • Write a paper and present it at the conference (due by 31 Dec 2012 - Call For Papers is linked below).
  • Suggest a panel topic, help recruit panelists, and moderate the session
  • Sing on a praise team for the opening worship time
  • Play an instrument for the opening worship time
  • Read a scripture passage for one of our opening devotions
  • Lead a prayer at one of the meal times
  • Moderate one of the technical sessions
  • Review abstracts and papers in the months prior to the conference
  • Serve on the program committee
  • Review conference materials (such as registration forms, publicity) to ensure correctness and accuracy before they get sent out
  • Help run the registration table on Wednesday afternoon, June 26 and welcome attendees as they arrive
  • Help publicize the event by developing advertising flyers, using social media, etc.
  • Please send a link to this page to Christian engineers who you think might be interested, especially if they are in the Atlanta area.

Please consider where God can use your gifts and talents.  If you feel called to serve, please email the conference general chair, Steve VanderLeest, svleest@calvin.edu.
