Hilary Punnett

Hilary Punnett has been a multi-dimensional musician from an early age. She studied piano (Kathy Koch), clarinet (Lisa Gartrell-Yeo), voice (Karen Smith) and organ (Garth MacPhee) in her birthplace of Victoria, BC, before moving to Montreal in 2005 to pursue organ studies at McGill’s Schulich school of Music under John Grew. She began organ studies at the age of 17, and was organ scholar at the Church of St. John the Divine in Victoria from 2003 until coming to Montreal. In 2004 she was awarded the RCCO first prize at the Greater Victoria Performing Arts festival in organ performance, and was a guest performer at the Victoria RCCO’s fall concert event in the same year. In the summer of 2006, Hilary was substitute director of music at St. John the Divine, Victoria. Hilary is currently in the final year of her Bachelor’s degree at McGill in Organ Performance, and has been awarded the W. Douglas Clark Memorial prize and the Douglas Mackey prize for organ at McGill. She intends to continue her studies in organ performance beyond her Bachelor’s degree and to pursue a career in Church music, which has been a huge passion and source of inspiration for her.
