Donald Hunt


 

Donald Hunt was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and began his musical training at age 4. He began his formal studies in composition at McGill University under Jean Lesage. Since then, he has studied with William Caplin, Sean Ferguson, Ana Sokolovic, and Jonathan Wild. As an organist, Donald made his solo recital debut at 21 years of age as a featured artist at the 2006 Royal Canadian College of Organists national convention in Halifax. He has been a finalist in the RCCO National Organ Playing Competition, the Lynnwood Farnam competition, and was unanimously awarded first prize (Prix Claude Lavoie) in the Quebec Organ Competition at age 22. He has played in masterclasses for Marie-Claire Alain and Ben van Oosten. Donald holds a bachelor of music from McGill University's Schulich School of Music, with majors in organ performance and composition. He is currently pursuing a master's in organ with John Grew and William Porter (improvisation), and is assistant organist at Christ Church Cathedral, Montreal.
