I received my Ph.D. in mass communication with a concentration of advertising from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) in 2006.

I joined the Department of Communication at Appalachian State University in 2007 as a tenure-track assistant professor of advertising. Currently I have been tenured associate professor of advertising for 5 years. I teach Foundations of Advertising, Media Planning, Communication Research Methods and Advertising Ethics.

My academic research focuses on advertising/marketing via new media (Internet, social media, mobile media etc.) and media effects. My studies have been published 20 peer-reviewed journals such as International Journal of Mobile Marketing, Chinese Journal of Communication, Journal of Targeting, Measurement and Analysis for Marketing, Asia Pacific Journal of Marketing and Logistics, Journal of International Consumer Marketing, Journal of New Communications Research,
