From:  Donald L. Oehler, Musical Director, Chapel Hill Philharmonia

Dear Fellow Musician:

Thank you very much for your interest in becoming a member of the Chapel Hill Philharmonia.  The musicians who make up this ensemble are accomplished amateurs and music teachers from Chapel Hill and the greater Triangle region who work together as a community of musicians dedicated to performing the best orchestral repertoire as well as contributing to the overall cultural fabric of the region. It is truly an honor to be musical director of such an extraordinary group of people.

As musical director, I make every effort to program exciting, gratifying repertoire both to meet the needs for public programming and, most importantly, to challenge the members of the ensemble to achieve the greatest sense of musical accomplishment.  I can tell you that members of the orchestra are conscientious about rehearsal attendance, studying parts, and their commitment to the Philharmonia’s success.

A self-regulating ensemble, the Philharmonia requires no formal auditions. As such, it is important to you, the members of the ensemble, and to the musical director, that you are appropriately seated and comfortable with your role as a Philharmonia musican.  To that end I ask that you carefully assess your own skills and experiences so you can have the best experience as a member of this ensemble.

Sincerely yours,

Donald L. Oehler
