Regular Activities and Events

Keep an eye on our calendar for frequently repeated events and activities, like our half day retreats, cooking classes, Vesak (Buddha's birthday), Ketina (robe offerings), food fairs, etc.

Half Day Retreats

Our half day retreats can include chanting, sitting and walking meditation, dhamma discussion and light tai chi or yoga exercise.  Watch our calendar for these events or send an email to subscribe@dwms.org and ask to be added to our email notifications.

Sunday evenings

6:00 PM - 7:00 PM - Dhamma Discussion

Bhante Dhammawansha leads an open discussion on Dhamma (original teachings of Buddha).  Unless otherwise announced, this is an open, instructional format.  The goal is for clarity and understanding of the chosen topic.

Bhante Dhammawansha usually selects a topic, though, sometimes he may ask for a topic from his students.

A short stretch break before meditation.

7:00 PM - 8:00 PM - Chanting & Meditation

Bhante Dhammawansha leads a few moments of chanting from selections of Vandana: Buddhist Devotions.  Chanting is done in Pali, sometimes repeated in English.  Our booklets have English translations along with the Pali.

We then sit for 20 to 40 minutes in quite Metta (Loving- Kindness) or Vipassana meditation.

After the meditation there is a short chanting of a sutra followed by a blessing from Bhante.

Announcements of upcoming events and news, then we adjourn for some tea, cookies and conversation.

Thursday evenings

7:00 PM - 8:00 PM - Vipassana Meditation

Vipassana meditation.

Bhante Dhammawansha leads an open discussion on Dhamma (original teachings of Buddha).
