Tools

Here reside various tools that I have developed to help my campaigns.

Heraldry Generator - (v0.5) Written in Java.  Requires JRE 1.6 (may work with 1.5, but is untested).  Unzip the contents to a directory, and double click Shield.bat.  Since it is written using SWT it is only operable on Windows.

I've pulled back on the number of applications included in this version in favor of releasing something more usable to generate heraldic shields.  The application will generate random shields as well as read in xml files that can describe shields.

  • Create a random shield and save it to a file
  • Edit the .shd (xml) file to modify it by hand
  • Load the .shd file to create your shield.
  • Tinctures, fields, and charges can be modified or added by modifying the appropriate configuration file located in config/

Heraldry Generator - (v0.2) Written in Java.  Requires JRE 1.4 or above (may work with 1.3, but is untested).  Unzip the contents to a directory, and double click Heraldry.bat.  Since it is written using SWT it is only operable on Windows.

Right now this tool is about generating heraldic shields.  It does so randomly based on several rules of heraldry that I pulled from various places on the net.  The rules aren't implemented stringently, so sometimes the randomly generated shields look wrong.

I have plans in the near future to expand this tool so that it generates geneologies and shields for entire kingdoms.

  • Version 0.1
  • Added fur tinctures, as well as several new fields.
  • Source code included in download.
  • 2 Applications included.  Heraldry.bat generates a single shield.  Clan.bat generates a group of related shields (number and size can be changed by modifying the command line parameters).
  • Version 0.2
  • 3 Applications included.  Heraldry.bat generates geneologies for several Clans.  This is the most useful tool by far.  Shield.bat generates a single shield.  Clan.bat generates a group of related shields (number and size can be changed by modifying the command line parameters).
  • Use the seed number and number of years to watch the clans develop over the years.
  • Click on an individual's name (not shield) to recieve a summary of their history.  Currently only births, deaths, and marriages are recorded, but more history and events will be added.

Khoronus Timeline - Written in Java.  Requires JRE 1.3 or above.  Witeen using Swing, so should be OS independant.

Installing

Follow these steps for Installing the Khoronus Timeline Tracker:

  1. Download the JRE version 1.3 (if you already have version 1.2.2 that should be enough, but if you have anything earlier you will need to get a new version) if you do not already have one of these installed on your machine. These are free downloads from Sun's site.
  2. JRE 1.3   http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/jre/
  3. Follow the directions at Sun's site for downloading and installing the JRE.

[Note: If you have completed this step when downloading a previous version you do not need to download the JRE again.]
  4. Download the timeline.zip file to your local machine.
  5. Extract the timeline.zip file into a directory on your machine.
