Greater Bethlehem and Woodbury Area

A new Community Children’s Chorus is being offered to students in the Greater Bethlehem Woodbury area. The Chorus will provide students in grades 1-8 in Region 14 and surrounding towns an extended opportunity to sing quality choral music that is in addition to the choral programs offered in the schools. The chorus will hold rehearsals on Thursdays at Mitchell Elementary School from 3:45-4:45 beginning on September 14th, culminating in a concert planned for November 16th.

The Children’s Chorus will provide training in musicianship and choral technique as well as performance opportunities for children in concerts and in local care facilities. The fee to participate is $25 per child for the 10-week program in addition to the purchase of a shirt for performances.

Registration is open at www.ChimeInMusic.org

Donna Poliquin and Anna Jedd will be directing the Chorus. Donna Poliquin is the director of choral music at Watertown High School. Anna Jedd, a retired music teacher, is the director of music at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Oxford and was formerly director of the Litchfield County Children’s Choir.

The chorus is being formed as part of Chime In! Music With a Mission, Inc., a community music organization centered in Bethlehem and known for its handbell choirs, in collaboration with Region 14 Woodbury/Bethlehem School District. The District will provide after-school transportation from Bethlehem Elementary School to Mitchell School in Woodbury.

Members of Chime In! will provide opportunities for the children to use chimes and handbells in their performances. In the past, many area students have sung in the Chime In! Community Music Day held at Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.
