What is Lent?

Lent is an important season on the Christian calendar: 40 days, excluding Sundays.  It begins on Ash Wednesday and ends early Easter morning.  It is a time to think of one's personal relationship with God, aided by "spiritual disciplines" designed to draw us closer to God.  Some examples of spiritual disciplines include fasting, Bible study, prayer, and self-examination.

Here is a YouTube video for your reflection.

Quotes to Ponder

"The season of Lent brings to mind thoughts of reflection, fasting, and  'giving up.'  Lent can also be...a wonder-full opportunity to take 40 days - or what is left of them - to make desired life changes that may have been set  aside due to ultra-busy schedules."  -- Mary Carty

"If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me."  -- Jesus (Mark 8:34b)
