Continuing Programs:

Junior Friends

Anyone between the ages of 12-17 may join the Junior Friends. If you are interested in helping expand the teen collection, volunteering in the community and in the library, or meeting other
teens who share your love for reading and the community, this group is for you! We meet the last Tuesday of each month from 6-7 pm.

7th Annual Teen Photo Contest
We will be accepting photos for the Teen Photo Contest from February 1–March 31. Teens are invited to enter in one of two age groups: 12-15 years or 16-18 years.

February Break Programs:

Lego of Your Imagination
Wednesday, February 19 from 2-3pm, for ages 11-17.
Come in and create! We will judge based on different themes/topics/subjects. Prizes will be awarded and there will also be a grand prize!
Registration is required and begins January 2.

Eat Your Heart Out: Zombie Fashion Show
Thursday, February 20 from 2-4pm, for ages 11-17.
Come in at 2pm and create your zombie fashion masterpiece. Already have a work of zombie fashion at home? Come in at 3pm to walk the runway! Awards will be given for the best zombie models!
Registration is required and begins January 2.

April Break Programs:

Triwizard Tournament
Come in during the week of April 14 to participate in our many Triwizard Tournament activities, including a Sorting Hat quiz, picture captions and character contests, and a Spells competition! Stop in anytime the library is open during Spring Break week to take part in these exciting challenges.
Prizes will be awarded at the end of the week! For ages 11-17.

Wandmaking and Chocolate Frogs
Monday, April 14, from 2-3pm, for ages 11-17.
Get crafty as we kick off our Triwizard Tournament with a wandmaking program! Come out and create your own custom wand, and take the time to make some delicious Chocolate Frogs as well! Have your picture taken to be featured on your own Chocolate Frog card.
Registration is required and begins March 24.

Quidditch Match
Wednesday, April 16, from 11am – noon, for ages 11-17.
Ever wanted to try out the popular Wizarding sport of Quidditch? Join us as we play the Muggle Way!
Space is limited and registration starts on March 24.

Triwizard Trivia
Friday, April 18, from 2-3pm, for ages 11-17.
Come test your knowledge of all things Harry Potter at our final Triwizard event. Prizes will be awarded for the trivia winners and to the winners of the other Tournament activities. Registration is required and starts March 24.

2014 Annual Photo Contest

Seventh Annual Teen Photo Contest

We will begin accepting photos for our (7th annual) 2014 photo contest from February 1–March 31.
We will accept submissions of up to two 4”x 6” photographs that have been printed by a photo lab such as Target or CVS, plus an electronic submission of each.
All the photos will be displayed in the library throughout the month of April  so that we can pick a viewer's choice winner. Photos will also be featured on our website.

Who can participate

This contest is open to teens ages 12-18 and living in Monroe County. Amateur photographers only – no professionals, please!!

Contest Divisions
We will divide the contest into two divisions: ages 12-15 years and 16-18 years.

When to submit your masterpiece
Submissions will be accepted between February 1–March 31 2014. Late submissions will not be accepted or considered for prizes. Each photograph must be accompanied by a signed waiver/photo release form. The release form must include the names and signatures of any person whose face is clearly seen in the photo! If the subject is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must sign the photo release!

Submission Guidelines
We will need:     
    1. a 4×6 hard copy of up to two of your photos printed by a photo lab     
    2. a digital copy sent to: cplphotocontest@gmail.com    
    
3. a completed entry form.

Photos can feature
people, pets, landscapes, architecture, or scenery. Photos may be in either color or black and white.
There will also be one prize in each division for "altered" images, please make a note if this has been done.

Photographs featuring people that are “recognizable” must be accompanied by a Chili Public Library Photo Release Form, one for every person featured!
If the featured person is under age 18, the form must be signed by a parent or guardian.
Submissions without the release form will be ineligible for prizes or use by the library.
The Chili Public Library has the right to refuse any submission that is deemed obscene or inappropriate.
Each person is limited to two entries. Submitted photos will not be returned!

Prizes (gift cards) will be given in each division
First prize: $70
Second prize: $50
Third prize: $30
Five honorable mentions: $10
One “Altered” prize: $25
One of these prizes: Viewer’s Choice Award: $25
We would like to thank the Friends of the Chili Public Library for generously donating the prizes for the contest.

2013 Summer Reading Contest

Hey people!
Between July 8st and August 15th we want you to read even more than you do the rest of the year!
For each book you read and each program you come to you will get entered into our weekly drawings.
These will be held July 12, July 19, July 26, August 2, August 9 and August 16.
Want an extra chance? Write about what you liked/didn't like about the book, let us know what you thought about the program or suggest other ideas for programs.
We'll be giving away gift certificates, books and lots of other things.

Paracord Bracelets
July 16 at 7pm

This program is for teens between 11-17 years
Paracord is considered a useful survival tool that can be helpful when you need it. It is ideal for camping, boating, hunting, hiking, and much more. However, you can't use it if you don't have it. That is where the paracord bracelet comes in... and that’s why you’ll be coming here!

Let your inner artist out and paint some fabulous rocks for your garden! Even more fun, our Junior Friends will be there to paint with you and talk about some of their great ideas for the future.

How to Pay for College

Navigating the College Selection Process
April 9 from 7-8:30pm

Registration begins January 2nd for this event for teens and their parents.
Summit Federal Credit Union has partnered with CAPlus for this session covering information on reducing college costs, preventing costly mistakes parents make during the college process, the debt issue, academic selectivity, exploring financial aid packages and how to better handle this big financial decision.

A Little Gross, a Little Girly and a Movie In-Between with Junior Friend Emily
Ages 11–17. Registration begins June 25.
Like gross stuff? Come in and make something squishy that glows in the dark! Disgusted by the disgusting? Bring in a t-shirt you don’t mind ripping apart and we’ll create something awesome! Neither one your cup of tea? We’ll have a movie on too!

Exploring Ireland with Junior Friend Erin
Ages 11–17. Registration begins June 25. Join one of our Junior Friends as she shares her love of all things Irish. We’ll show a movie chosen by Erin and a craft or some delectable treat.

Babysitter's Training
$42.00 payable in cash at the time of registration, which begins March 1.
May 5 from 10:00a-3p
This course for ages 11 - 16 teaches roles and responsibilities of the babysitter, including skills in accident prevention and emergency recognition. Students are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch.
The fee includes a Certificate of Completion.

Online Book Discussion

June 13 from 3-4pm - Calamity Jack
This program is for ages 11-17. Join us “virtually” in a closed chat room, where we’ll put our typing and discussion skills to the test! Come to the circulation desk for the book and information on how to join the chat room.
