Chilcompton Art Club
During the 1980’s a handful of friends-all interested in art, began to meet together with the sole purpose of sharing and enjoying their varied artistic skills. Soon the idea of sharing their love of art with others in the community and also encouraging those who had always wanted to paint but had convinced themselves that they couldn’t, to come along and give it a try. And so the Chilcompton Art Club evolved. We now have membership of about 45.We are fortunate in having an ideal venue for painting. It is a modern church hall attached to Chilcompton Parish Church of St. John the Baptist which is in a beautiful rural setting with lots of natural light. We hold three weekly sessions-each lasting two hours. On Tuesday’s we meet at 7pm and on Wednesday’s and Friday’s at 10am.The club has several accomplished artists who are always willing to help those who are just beginning or offering advice if requested. We are a group of aspiring artists with varying skills of ability who are there just for the pure enjoyment of painting and the enjoyment of each others company. Each year we hold an annual exhibition in the local village hall- an event that is looked forward to by many in the community and beyond. We also have three competitions each year within our membership on a chosen theme. To encourage the development of skills and to experience working in different mediums we organise regular demonstrations and workshops led by professional artists or our own members. You will be assured of a warm welcome if you would like to come and enjoy with us the art of painting. Hugh, Club Chairman.
