William W. Hay
William Hay was born on December 10, 1908 in Michigan. He is best known for his work on railroads. He took part in World War II as a worker for the Military Railway Service. Not only did he get his education from the University of Illinois, but also was a professor of railway civil engineering. He was an advisor, and is believed to have advised over 72 railway engineer majors. He wrote two very popular books entitled “Railway Engineering” and “An Introduction to Transportation Engineering” which are still in use today. He is currently considered the academic leader of railway engineering due to all of his accomplishments.
