Whitney C. Huntington
Whitney C. Huntington was born in 1887. He attended the University of Colorado and earned his B.S. degree in civil engineering in 1910. In 1912 he was awarded the professional degree of Civil Engineering and completed his masters the following year. He went on to become the head of the University of Colorado’s civil engineering department in 1919 and served as the ASCE’s Colorado Section president that same year. In 1926 he began his career at the University of Illinois. He worked in the department for 30 years finishing his career as head of the department when he retired in 1956.
In addition to his work as a professor, he served as the head of the Civil Works Administration’s Engineering Advisory Committee. In addition to being made an honorary member of our Chi Epsilon chapter, Whitney Huntington has been honored by several institutions of bodies throughout his career. In 1937 he received the George Norlin Award which recognizes outstanding alumni of the University of Colorado. His alma mater honored him again in 1947 when gave him an honorary Doctor of Science degree. In 1957 he was made an honorary member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. In 1958, the city of Denver awarded Whitney the Centennial Award of Distinguished Citizens. Whitney Huntington passed away in 1965.
