Narbey Khachaturian
Narbey Khachaturian was a member of the University of Illinois CEE faculty from 1952 to 1989. He earned his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. at the University of Illinois in 1947, 1948, and 1952. During his time as a faculty member Professor Khachaturian served as an assistant professor, full professor, assistant dean of the college of engineering, and associate head of the CEE department. Professor Khachaturian was especially involved in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). His main area of focus and research was on structural analysis, optimization, and structural design. He was awarded the Epstein award, the Outstanding Teacher ASCE Student Chapter Award, the John Palmer Award of the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois, the Halliburton Award for Engineering Education Leadership, the Harold T. Larson Award of Chi Epsilon, and the Lifetime Achievement Award for the ASCE Illinois section. Narbey passed away in 2009. His active involvement in the Illinois CEE department is visible with the first floor lecture hall named after him in the Yeh Center.
