John M. Hanson
Dr. John M. Hanson received his BS in Civil Engineering from South Dakota State University, his MS from in Structural Engineering from Iowa State, and his PhD in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University. Dr. Hanson was also elected to the National Academy of Engineers in 1992.
As a registered engineer in five states, he specialized in the analysis of structural failures, as well as damage and deterioration. His firm, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. has become a world leader in forensic engineering under his leadership.
Due to the technical nature and merit of his research and practice he was elected an honorary member of ASCE, the highest honor bestowed upon a civil engineer by ASCE. Additionally, Dr. Hanson is an honorary member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering(IABSE), and a Fellow of ASCE and the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute(PCI). He is a member of the International Concrete Repair Institute and Transportation Research Board(TRB). Dr. Hanson has served on 26 technical and administrative committees for ASCE, ACI, IABSE, PCI and TRB and has made significant contributions to code for ASCE, ACI, and PCI.
