John E. Barrett
Mr. Barrett co-founded the consulting firm of Bowman, Barrett & Associates, Inc. with his University of Illinois classmate, Louis Bowman, in 1989. Mr. Barrett helped to establish the Bowman, Barrett & Associates Outstanding Scholar Award at the University of Illinois and donates a great deal of his time to helping students at Benito Juarez High School through the Education to Careers program. Additionally, Mr. Barrett is an active member in many professional organizations and committees including: the American Railway and Maintenance-of-Way Association, the American Institute of Steel Construction, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Society of Testing Materials, the American Welding Society, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois, and has served on the Board of Directors for the University of Illinois Civil Engineering Alumni Association.
John E. Barrett graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois. Mr. Barrett is a licensed structural engineer and a registered professional engineer in 16 states. He is a well known authority on structural matters and railroad bridge design. He has earned many accolades in his 50-plus years as a civil engineer.
