John D. Haltiwanger
John D. Haltiwanger began his academic career at the University of South Carolina where he received his B.S. in Civil Engineering. He then went on to receive his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. His professional career began at the University of Auburn in 1946 as an instructor of civil engineering. Haltiwanger then joined the staff of the University of Illinois as an instructor, reaching the rank of professor in 1959. During his time at Illinois, he served as Associate Head of the Department of Civil Engineering from 1967 until 1983, while staying actively involved in several other organizations such as Urbana Campus Senate and the University Senates.
Throughout his career, Haltiwanger received various awards including a Public Service Commendation of the U. S. Coast Guard, the Bliss Medal of the American Society of Military Engineers and the Meritorious Public Service Award of the U. S. Coast Guard. Then in June of 1990, John D. Haltiwanger retired from the University of Illinois as Professor Emeritus ending an illustrious career.
