Harold R. Sandberg
Harold R. Sandberg received a BS in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1942. After a period of service in the United States Navy, he received his MS in civil engineering in 1947, also from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is licensed as a structural engineer in Illinois, and also holds a Professional Engineering license in Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, and Colorado. He began working at Alfred Benesch & Company in 1947, and now he is the Chairman Emeritus of the company.
He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Sandberg has served, and continues to serve on several ACI committees, as well as the ACI Scholarship Council. In addition, he was the President of the ACI Illinois Chapter in 1974.
Sandberg has received many awards including the ACI Delmar L. Bloem Award in 1997, in 2005 the ACI Illinois Chapter Henry Crown Award, and in 2006 the ACI Alfred E. Lindau Award. Currently, Sandberg’s research interests are focused on structural redundancy and durability.
