George W. Pickels
George Wellington Pickels was born in 1883 and died in 1944. He was an Chi epsilon honor member which indicates he contributed and made an impact to civil engineering here at the University and all across the world. He lived in Urbana, Illinois and was a professor in the Civil Engineering department here. The environmental hydrology and hydraulic engineering programs were great to have him. He made his mark with water resources engineering. This included a study he had done in 1931 about the Illinois floods. He also wrote a book about water supply, drainage ,and drainage laws which is still being used today and is available throughout the university and other places. He also wrote other books such as Route Surveying and Railroad Surveying. He truly did have an impact at this university and the entire field of civil engineering.
