Delon Hampton
A native of Chicago, Illinois and the first African American President of the American Society of Civil Engineers (1999-2000), Dr. Delon Hampton obtained his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1958 and his PhD in the same field as well as an honorary Doctorate from Purdue University in 1961.
Dr. Hampton has served as a professor at Howard University and an assistant professor at Kansas State University. Positions such as head of soil mechanics research at the University of New Mexico's Erich. Wang Research facility and senior research engineer at the IIT Research Institute reflect his involvement in research.
Dr. Hampton has received several awards such as the Civil Engineering Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumni Award of the University of Illinois, and the Edmund Friedman Professional Recognition Award and the James Laurie Prize from the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Delon Hampton and Associates was founded in 1973 by Dr. Hampton and exists today as an extremely successful company consistently ranked by Engineering News-Record as one of the top engineering firms in the U.S.
