David E. Daniel
David E. Daniel received his B.S. (University of Texas at Austin, 1972), M.S. (University of Texas at Austin, 1974), and Ph.D. (University of Texas at Austin, 1980) in civil engineering. He served as the Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1996-2001 and was Dean for the College of Engineering from 2001-2005, also at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Currently, he is the President of the University of Texas at Dallas. His research in the field of civil engineering primarily focused on containment systems for waste disposal and on the cleanup of contaminated waste-disposal sites. Some of the awards he has received include the Norman Medal, the J. James Croes Medal, and the Middlebrooks Medal from the American Society of Civil Engineers for papers he has published. He is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
