Charles H. Mottier, Jr.
Charles Mottier acquired his bachelor in Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois in 1910 and obtained his Civil Engineering Professional Degree in 1923. His main area of expertise was Rail Transportation. Upon graduation, Mottier joined Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad. The following year he transferred to the Bridge Department of the Illinois Central Railroad at which he was the vice-president until his retirement in 1958. His main accomplishments were the rehabilitation and electrification of the Illinois Central Railroad, the reconstruction of the Chicago terminal, and the replacement of timber bridges with steel or concrete structures. He has been a longtime member of the board of trustees of the Wesley Foundation serving UIUC. He passed in 1977. He is succeeded by three children, Charles Jr., Kathryn and Margaret Helvetius.
