Carl A. Metz
Carl Altgeld Metz received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1915. After earning his degree, Metz worked as a structural designer in Chicago from 1915 to 1917 and as a Construction Engineer in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania from 1917 to 1918. During World War I, Metz work for the U.S. Emergency Fleet building ships. Metz continued to work for A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company in Decatur, IL.
In 1960, Metz was named “Civil Engineer of the Year” by the American Society of Civil Engineers for his outstanding work in the field. He was also named a Chi Epsilon Honorary Member in 1977. A year later, in 1978, he was given the College Award.
Later in his life, in 1977, Metz became Chairman of the Board of Directors at his own architecture and engineering firm, Dolio & Metz Limited in Chicago. He also became President of Metz, Train, Olson, and Yongren, Incorporated in Chicago.
Carl A. Metz passed away on December 7, 1985.
