*****Congratulations to the Chiddix 7th Grade Band for receiving a Division I rating at the IESA Organization Music Contest. The 7th graders were one of only two bands that received Division I ratings from all three of the judges. Very proud of your performance today. ****I feel like I really need to do a shout out "THANK YOU" to my students and their parents. We hosted JH Solo and Ensemble Contest for about 800 junior high students. We had 11 performance rooms, 4 warm up rooms, the home room (gym) and the cafeteria. Friday after school approximately 40 student volunteers had rooms set up (pianos, chairs, music stands moved), signs, food line, judges packets, etc moved and set up in approximately 60 minutes. The best part, I never left the band room! Assigned the jobs, assigned a "crew chief" for each job and said go.
Saturday about 55 student volunteers and about 50 parent volunteers worked the event. If you have ever been to one of these contests, it seems like it is hurry up and wait all day long. These volunteers had results posted in 30 minutes or less all day long and the entire school cleaned and locked 25 minutes after the last performance. The two 8th graders that I assigned to run check in were AMAZING! Two different times we had adult volunteers that couldn't work. These two students reassigned jobs to students, doubled up small assignments, etc. to make sure everything was covered. It isn't always about who plays their instrument the best, but what kind of life skills that they learn. THANKS Chiddix 7th and 8th grade band students and parents......you made me VERY proud this weekend! 2-23-2016
