Sunday Contact Improv Jam, 11:30am-2:30pm

(There's a jam EVERY Sunday unless the calendar below says otherwise.)

Location: Mostly at Constellation, 3111 N Western (half a block south of Belmont) - please see "Jam Schedule and Reminders" section below to make sure.

Cost: $5 - $10 suggested donation to help support Contact Improvisation in Chicago - the jam leaders are donating their time!
(please give less than this if your budget is tight)

Newcomers: On your first day please arrive close to 11:30 so you can change clothes, get oriented, read the  Guidelines for the jam and be ready to start class at 11:45. (If you have substantial Contact Improvisation experience and wish to warm-up on your own rather than take class that's OK, but we'd like you to be present during the opening circle that occurs before the class.)

If you haven't done Contact Improvisation before, please click on this link to learn more about it:  Resources for Students of Contact Improvisation

Be sure to wear comfortable clothing that won't limit your movement (preferably cotton: synthetic materials don't work as well).  Full length pants work better than shorts; a long sleeve shirt can be useful as a second top layer.

All ages are welcome, but those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The adult is responsible for monitoring the child's safety and must be willing to intervene if the child's behavior is disruptive to others.

The sequence of activities is as follows unless indicated otherwise in the Jam Schedule & Reminders section:

11:30 - doors open

11:45 - opening circle, followed by a class in Contact Improvisation

1:00 - jamming begins (often starts with a second opening circle)

2:15 - closing circle (with time to process our experiences)

2:30 - end of the jam

If you need more info, or want to confirm the jam is happening a certain week (check the schedule below first), please call Daniel at (847) 971-2465 or e-mail dhalkin at earthlink dot net

Chicago Jam Schedule, Events & Reminders (updated 1/3/15)

We have an Underscore jam the first Sunday of each month (with a few exceptions).

Just in case you need reminders of what this is about, a .pdf file with excerpts from Nancy Stark Smith's description of the Underscore is at the bottom of this webpage.  There is also a great interview with Nancy Stark Smith on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-GDeTiW5Eo&feature=player_embedded

You can find the full description of the Underscore in Nancy's book" Caught Falling" (you can buy it at http://www.contactquarterly.com/ce/ce06.html).

PLEASE NOTE: On the Calendar below, if it says "??? leads the jam" within 4 days of the jam, Daniel is leading the jam.
