Expanded Anti Violence Initiative (E.A.V.I)

Expanded Anti Violence Initiative (E.A.V.I)

The Expanded Anti violence Initiative was created as an effective means for addressing the drug and gang problems that plague our communities. The Chicago Police Department and city agencies convene once a month to address problem locations, buildings and tenants. The expected outcome is to prevent crime. Concerned community members attend meetings to share locations in their area that are “problem spots” so the CPD can address them accordingly. Within the 20th ward, the districts thus far that have implemented this system are the 3rd, 7th and 9th District. In July of 2009, The EAVI program was initially launched in Englewood as a pilot program. The overall outcome resulted in 28% drop in public violence. I strongly encourage you to attend and share your concerns, the meeting schedule is as follows:

3rd District Meetings-3rd Thursday of each month at 7001 S. Cottage Grove starting at 11:30 am

7th District Meetings- 4th Tuesday of each month at 1438 W. 63rd Street starting at 11 am

9th District Meetings- 1st Thursday of each month located at 4748 S Marshfield starting at 6 pm

West Woodlawn Working Group Update

posted Sep 21, 2010, 7:53 AM by Chicago's 20th Ward   [ updated Jun 10, 2011, 4:54 PM ]

As a result of a number of complaints and actions by residents in the community as well as the Alderman, The Department of Buildings has ordered a 21 day order to vacate the property located at 6400 S. Rhodes. This particular address had a number of building violations and calls for service received from the CPD by concerned community members. An additional location that was causing concern in the community was Cool Running Fireworks Café located at 406-418 E. 69th Street. They too have been ordered to immediately vacate. As a result of the collaboration with the Alderman, community members and City agencies we were able to rid the community of two of the problem buildings that were causing problems for the area. Thank you for all of your calls and concerns! Continue to be vigilant by calling and reporting any suspicious behavior.
