Today, Sunday 10th December, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons will attend a ceremony in Oslo to pick up the 2017 Nobel Peace prize.  The prize was awarded for ICAN’s “work to draw attention to the  catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons” and the resulting ‘Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons’, which was adopted by 122 UN Member States earlier this year.
Cluster munitions, land mines, chemical and biological weapons are already banned under International Conventions....why not nuclear weapons!
We wanted to share the good news so have placed a half page ad in this weeks Chester Standard.  Thank you to everyone who donated and made this possible.
The Government will have to face considerable pressure before it will sign the treaty. It is up to us.
