Friends of Cherry Hinton St Andrews

The Friends are a group of  non-church goers and members of St. Andrew's congregation.

We raise money to maintain, repair, restore, preserve, improve, beautify and reconstruct St. Andrew's Church, the Church Centre and Churchyard for the benefit of the present and future community of Cherry Hinton.

St. Andrews Cherry Hinton Serving the Community of  Cherry Hinton for over 800 Years

The first known record of St Andrew’s Church dates from 1201.  In fact part of the tower is around 900 years old and evidence of human activity is indicated by ancient burials in the near vicinity.

Today the Church and its attached centre is still very much used by the community.  In the last year over 6000 people have used St. Andrews.  Events happening in the Church or Centre are varied and stretch across the age range of the community.

Younger members of the community     using the Centre include Little Bunnies and Rainbows. The Cherry Hinton Schools use the Church for  Services.  The Tuesday Club for our more senior citizens, the Local History Society and the WI are examples of Community Groups using the Centre which can also be booked by individuals.

Weddings, christenings, quiz nights, concerts, the Christmas Bazaar, Summer Fair, Christmas Midnight Mass, Church services or any of the other many activities which happen in the Church or Centre attract members of the Cherry Hinton Community and beyond.

 The Friends

The Friends of Cherry Hinton St. Andrew was formed in 2008 following the restoration  of St Andrew’s tower.  This had highlighted the need to generate regular funds for the continual maintenance of the church fabric.  The Church Centre also needs regular  funding for maintenance, updating and repair.

The aim of the Friends is to raise money to maintain, repair, restore, preserve, improve, beautify and reconstruct St. Andrew's Church, the Church Centre and Churchyard for the benefit of the present and future community of Cherry Hinton.

The Committee of the Friends are elected at the AGM.  They include people from local groups, as well as church and non-church members, who recognise the value of the building to the Cherry Hinton community.  Various Fund-raising events are arranged throughout the year.
