||Beaded Crochet Ornament Cover
(C) December 9, 2007
By Cheri Mancini
* Size 6 crochet hook
* Size 10 white/pearl crochet thread (I used Royale Metallic Crochet Thread,
in white/pearl color, by J&P Coats)
* 2.16 inch, clear round glass ornaments
* 48 Fashion glass beads for each ornament (I bought my beads at
WalMart.) These beads have big enough holes in them so that they easily
slip onto the size 10 crochet thread, using a needle threaded with the
size 10 thread.
String 48 beads onto crochet thread.
(Chain 5, 2 dc cluster in 5th chain from hook) six times, join in 1st
chain. Fasten a small gold safety pin to one of the clusters to
mark this as the right side of the work.
Chain 1, sc over join (between the clusters just below). *(Chain
6, 2 trc cluster in 5th chain from hook) twice. Chain 1, sc
between next two clusters. Repeat from * 4 times. Chain 6,
2 trc cluster in 5th chain from hook, chain 1, 3 trc cluster in the 1st
chain that's located just before the 1st cluster of this round.
Chain 1, TURN. (You are "turning the work" so you can add single beads
to the back side of the work, so that they will show on the front side
of the work.)
Sc in the space that's between the 2 clusters located just below.
*Chain 4, pull up a bead and work 1 chain to hold bead in place. Chain
4, skip next cluster, sc in next sc between next 2 clusters.
Repeat from * around, ending with slip-stitch in last sc. Chain
Sc in single crochet that's located just below. *Chain 6. 2
dtr cluster in 5th chain from hook, chain 1, pull up 7 beads.
Chain 1 to hold the beads in place. Chain 6, 2 dtr cluster in 5th
chain from hook, chain 1, sc in next sc between clusters. Repeat
from * around, ending with a slip stitch in the sc located just before
the 1st chain 6 of the round. Fasten off. Weave in
ends. Remove gold safety pin that's on right side of work.
Dampen crochet work with water, just until wet, and then blot
excess moisture out of it with a clean dry washcloth. Slip the
center hole of the cover over the top of the glass ornament, and gently
adjust the cover to drape nicely over the ornament. Add an
ornament hanger, and hang it somewhere safe, while crochet work is
After it is dry, when hanging the ornament on a tree, please don't let the crochet work rest against any lights.
